🔸 La Academia de Cine de España confirmó el deceso del reconocido intérprete de Tarde para la ira y El laberinto del fauno.
#ESPECTÁCULOS | El actor español Manolo Solo falleció la madrugada del jueves 30 de julio de 2026 a los 62 años. El actor, cuyo nombre real era Manuel Jesús Fernández Serrano, había participado en más de un centenar de producciones audiovisuales a lo largo de tres décadas de carrera.
La Academia de Cine de España confirmó el deceso a través de un comunicado. Tras conocerse la noticia, el director mexicano Guillermo del Toro, con quien Solo trabajó en 2006, fue uno de los primeros en reaccionar públicamente y despedirlo con un mensaje en redes sociales.
Tras el conocimiento de su deceso, el director mexicano escribió en X un conmovedor mensaje de despedida: “Manolo ha sido uno de los mejores actores que he tenido el privilegio de conocer. Y un hombre estupendo”.
La relación entre ambos se remonta a 2006, cuando Solo interpretó a Garcés, uno de los soldados del capitán Vidal, en El laberinto del fauno, película dirigida por Del Toro que ganó tres premios Óscar y proyectó internacionalmente el nombre del actor gaditano.
Del Toro no fue el único cineasta en despedir al actor. El director Santiago Segura también se pronunció en X al conocer la noticia, describiéndolo como “un gran actor (además de un gran tipo)”.
Por su parte, el director Alberto Rodríguez, con quien Solo trabajó en 7 vírgenes, La isla mínima y Anatomía de un instante, escribió sobre la amistad que los unía desde que se conocieron en 1994, al pie de un escenario, tras un concierto de la banda de Solo, Los Relicarios, en Londres.
Sobre él, Rodríguez escribió: “Era un gran actor, con una gran intuición, muy inteligente. Con un amor infinito por su profesión”. El cineasta recordó también que la última vez que se vieron, Solo le contaba, contento, sobre el departamento que acababa de comprar y sobre un programa experimental médico en el que estaba por ingresar.
Manolo Solo nació en Algeciras, Cádiz, en 1964. Estudió Ciencias de la Educación en la Universidad de Sevilla, carrera que nunca ejerció, pues su vocación siempre estuvo en el arte.
Antes de consolidarse como actor, intentó abrirse camino en el rock, formando parte de las bandas Los Relicarios y Los Kevin Bacons.
Su debut en la pantalla grande llegó en 1986 con la película El vivo retrato, y desde entonces no dejó de trabajar en cine, teatro, televisión y doblaje.
Su consagración como actor llegó en 2017, cuando ganó el Premio Goya al Mejor Actor de Reparto por Tarde para la ira, ópera prima como director del actor Raúl Arévalo.
Ese mismo papel le valió también el Premio Feroz y el galardón de la Unión de Actores.
En 2026, año de su deceso, Solo había recibido su más reciente nominación al Goya como mejor actor protagonista por Una quinta portuguesa, de Avelina Prat, siendo esta su segunda nominación en esa categoría; la primera había llegado en 2024 por Cerrar los ojos, de Víctor Erice.
Manolo Solo falleció a consecuencia de un cáncer, según confirmó la Academia de Cine de España al momento de dar a conocer su fallecimiento.
Hasta el momento, ni la familia del actor ni su agencia de representación han informado qué tipo de enfermedad oncológica padecía, ni tampoco han precisado desde cuándo llevaba conviviendo con el diagnóstico, por lo que se trató de una batalla que el actor mantuvo en privado.
De hecho, la noticia de su deceso tomó por sorpresa a buena parte de sus colegas y seguidores, ya que en su última publicación en Instagram, compartida el pasado 20 de mayo durante el Festival de Cannes, Solo se mostraba emocionado por el estreno de su más reciente proyecto cinematográfico, la película Aquí.
De acuerdo con la agencia de representación del actor, el velatorio se realizó en el tanatorio de San Isidro, en Madrid, durante la tarde del jueves 30 de julio y continuó el viernes 31, para que familiares, amigos y compañeros de profesión pudieran darle el último adiós.
