🔸 El mexicano finalizó lejos del podio en la quinta etapa, pero le bastó para ganar la clasificación general

Cuando Isaac del Toro quedó segundo en el Giro de Italia -primero en la clasificación de ciclistas jóvenes- mucho se especuló sobre si el de Baja California tenía proyección a futuro o fue solo un resultado circunstancial. Esas dudas se han despejado y con una contundente actuación, el mexicano se coronó en la 75a edición de la Vuelta de Austria.
Finalizar en el puesto 19 en la quinta y última etapa no significó ningún problema para ‘Torito’, que cumplió y entró junto con el pelotón principal para mantener la ventaja de 29 segundos sobre Archie Ryan. El irlandés se quedó con el segundo puesto, mientras que el compañero de Del Toro, el polaco Rafal Majka fue tercero.
Desde su quinto lugar en la primera etapa, Isaac dejó claro que no llegó a Austria a ser un espectador más. Su victoria en la segunda etapa lo confirmó y la contundencia con que se impuso en la cuarta prueba, etapa reina en Kühtai, dejó en claro el potencial que tiene el mexicano.
En la penúltima etapa de la Vuelta de Austria, Del Toro llegó tercero al tramo final, pero en la última curva superó a Ryan y Majka. Con ello llegó líder de la clasificación general, de la clasificación de puntos y de la de pilotos jóvenes a la última etapa, misma que se llevó el luxemburgués Bob Jungles.
De esta forma el mexicano ganó su primer título fuera de las categorías juveniles. Además, su equipo UAE Team Emirates XRG fue el mejor de la Vuelta de Austria, con cuatro de cinco victorias posibles.
Desde que concluyó el Giro de Italia, el equipo del mexicano dejó claro que este año no apostarían por llevarlo a las otras grandes pruebas como el Tour de Francia (actualmente en disputa) o la Vuelta a España (programada del 23 de agosto al 14 de septiembre).
Sin embargo, otras pruebas como la Clásica de San Sebastián (2 de agosto) o el Tour de Polonia (4 al 10 de agosto) pueden estar en su radar, aunque de momento su equipo no ha confirmado su calendario tras la Vuelta de Austria.
